Mississppi River

I’m laying on this big rock, right off the Mississippi River. I’m on the land of Missouri and you can see Illinois across the river. Greer is laying on the rock next to me as we listened to the crickets, the river and the wind. We listened for at least half an hour. It was a magical summer night. It was perfect.
I ran through some corn fields and we paddled on the Mississippi River. We were staying the night on this couple’s land, who were kind enough to let us pitch a tent. He was 47, she was 32, and they were smitten of each other. They caught some catfish that evening and made the best fried fish I ever had in my life. They talked about the struggles of St. Louis after the Ferguson riot. They talked about law and Greer really got into the conversation. I just listened and enjoyed the sound of the Missourian nature.
