Texas is more than just a place—it’s a feeling, a rhythm, a story woven deeply into my being. Though I was born in Tokyo, Japan, Texas has been the backdrop of my life for 28 unforgettable years. Central Texas, in particular, is where my roots have grown the deepest, split between the nostalgia-soaked streets of San Antonio and the transformative, self-discovery chapter of Austin.
San Antonio holds the essence of my childhood. It’s where I first experienced the world—wandering through historic missions, celebrating vibrant Fiestas, and marveling at the charm of the River Walk. The city is filled with so much nostalgia, like flipping through the pages of a well-loved photo album. Its warmth feels like a gentle reminder of where I come from, even as life pulls me forward.
Austin, however, is where I truly came into my own. As a young adult, it became my playground for growth and exploration. The city’s creativity, from its live music venues to its eclectic art scene, pushed me to embrace my individuality. It’s where I met people who shaped me, discovered passions I didn’t know I had, and, most importantly, crossed paths with my husband. For all its quirks and vibrancy, Austin taught me how to truly be myself.
Ironically, growing up, I wanted nothing more than to get the heck out of Texas. It felt too big, too hot, too familiar. I longed to explore places that felt different and new. Yet, life has a funny way of surprising you—because now, Texas is not only where I feel most at home, but it’s also a place so many others are flocking to. Once a state I was eager to leave behind, it’s now a destination for dreamers, builders, and seekers of opportunity.
I’ve also explored the rugged beauty of West Texas, where time slows down and the vastness of the land speaks to the soul. Big Bend’s starlit skies and Marfa’s artistic allure remind me that Texas is as diverse as it is boundless.
And though my husband was raised in Canada, Texas is where his story began, too—born in San Antonio and destined to meet me years later in Austin. Texas, with its serendipitous charm, brought us together, intertwining our stories into its fabric.
No matter where I go or how far I wander, Texas will always be home. It’s in the fiery sunsets, the welcoming spirit of its people, and the memories etched into every road I’ve traveled. It’s where my story began, where I grew, and where my heart will forever belong
